Frequently Asked Questions
What is "holistic mental healthcare?"
Holistic mental health care supports the whole child—mind, body, and emotions. Along with traditional therapy, we'll tap into creativity and use expressive arts (such as writing, art, music, nature-based activities, and horticulture), movement, and mindfulness, to help children and teens understand their feelings, build coping skills, and feel their best.
Sounds hippie dippie. Is it effective for kids?
Absolutely. There's a wealth of academic articles supporting how helpful this kind of care is for children and caregivers. A holistic care approach can help us understand a child's strengths we might not've otherwise learned about.
How do I get started?
We need a referral from one of your child's current providers, such as their primary care doctor, psychiatrist, or school counselor. Referrals are reviewed before a free 15-minute consultation. A formal intake follows if you feel we're a good fit.
What ages do you work with?
Do you accept insurance?
No. All services use private pay and are due at the time of service.
Ages 8-19.
Where are sessions held?
Sessions are held physically at the office on Main Street in Bar Harbor or via telehealth. A typical session is one-hour, but other lengths are offered as well.
What if my child is in crisis or there is an emergency?
Maine Holistic Mental Health, LLC is not a crisis service.
